Apparel Designer KEISUKE YOSHIDA and NEWVIEW Offer Wearable AR Merchandise

In August 2020, NEWVIEW started a community project for creative expression called NEWVIEW CYPHER. The community is focused on creative expression in all genres using XR. For example, NEWVIEW CYPHER #Goods explores new expressions by combining objects such as t-shirts, stickers, posters, mugs and figurines with AR. Apparel designer, KEISUKE YOSHIDA, uses his latest t-shirt collection to reflect his AR works.

Merchandise combined with AR can enhance our view of a product and increase its value. The goal of NEWVIEW CYPHER is to enrich our experiences with these objects and create a culture where AR can be combined with various goods developed by artists and creators.

Available in the STYLY STORE

An AR T-shirt was developed in collaboration with fashion brand “KEISUKEYOSHIDA”. AR content can be experienced by scanning a code attached to the T-shirt.

Design Concept

The theme of this season’s apparel is about quietly staring at life.

When SS20 (Spring/Summer 2020) Fashion Week was canceled due to the pandemic, designer KEISUKE YOSHIDA still maintained a strong desire for creating fashion and a craving for a normal life.

Yoshida’s current fashion inspiration and motivation started at the end of the summer when he went to a used clothing store looking for T-shirts in a pile of clothes. He found inspiration from this mountain of old clothes and decided to transform these forgotten articles of clothing into a full body. Yoshida wanted to show the world that forgotten or neglected clothes (“dead” clothes) can still have life. The design was meant to express the hidden vitality that can be felt slightly, but strongly within the fragility of old clothes.

“We are neither physical beings nor the mental beings. We are both physical and spiritual. There is no love if either of these vitalities is lacking.”

It was these words from French novelist, George Sand, that Yoshida first heard when he was in college that inspired him to create his latest collection. Besides Sand’s words, It was also her clothing which also greatly influenced his designs this season.

This season, KEISUKE YOSHIDA wanted to express his obsession with life, but he may also be trying to express his desire for love.
