Try It On In AR! – Grand Opening of a 3.3㎡ Unmanned Shoe Store in Haneda Airport

On December 17, 2020, FlickFit, Inc. opened an unmanned shoe store in Terminal 1 of the Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan. FlickFit is a company that provides support services for shoe stores and manufacturers. The new shoe store is compact, only requiring a space of 3.3㎡.

Through the use of AR technology, a customer can try on shoes that have been projected onto the screen inside the booth. After a customer selects the shoe style that they want, a device will take 3D measurements of your feet, suggesting the best size and fit for your new shoes. The process is complete once a QR code is generated. The QR code can then be scanned using the customer’s smartphone. On screen prompts will guide you through the purchase process. Once ordered the shoes will be mailed to your home at a later date. Shoes can be returned for free if they do not fit right.

The unmanned shoe store will be located in the “Haneda House” area on the 5th floor in Terminal 1 of the Haneda Airport. This area of the airport has several rental offices and a gym. FlickFit hopes that their new shoe store will be used by both tourists and local residents.

FlickFit will showcase shoes from the Korean brand, “paperplanes shoes.” The Korean brand makes their shoes from 100% merino wool. According to a FlickFit spokesman, the unmanned shoe stores will be used for demonstration tests. Future consideration will be given to new brands depending on how well received the unmanned shoe store is.
