Shibuya 5G Entertainment Project recently launched a new digital platform called “Virtual Shibuya” in May 2020. The new digital platform is designed to help promote activities and events in a Virtual Shibuya. During this global pandemic, the Shibuya Ward of Tokyo is trying to host virtual entertainment from artists, designers, and even musicians. Using the STYLY XR platform, a new virtual music event was hosted by the Shibuya Ward and the KDDI Corporation in collaboration with music sensation “YOASOBI”. The virtual music event was exhibited using MR with a special virtual collaboration with “YOASOBI” alongside the “au 5G Halloween Festival”. The event took place in 3 places throughout the Shibuya Ward from October 26, 2020 to October 31, 2020.
YOASOBI’s debut single, “YORU NI KAKERU” (or “Racing Into The Night”) was released at the end of 2019 and since May 2020 it has ranked at the top of the music charts in Japan. Her debut single has attracted rapid attention through social networking sites like YouTube. The combined views on YouTube alone are in excess of 300 million making her song one of the biggest music hits this year despite the pandemic.
In this limited time only event, the Shibuya 5G Entertainment Project’s Virtual Shibuya and singing sensation “YOASOBI” shared an unforgettable and unpublished music experience in three different places in the Shibuya Ward of Tokyo. The areas included Shibuya PARCO, Shibuya Cast, and Miyashita Park. The MR experience differed by location. The experience was divided into different areas as a pandemic countermeasure.
Each of the three areas had a unique STYLY GeoMarker which can be scanned using the STYLY Mobile app on your mobile device. In addition to the three unique MR experiences, there was a large canvas print with an “ultra blue” jacket cover that was given away. Visitors who viewed all three MR experiences could enter the giveaway. YOASOBI stickers with STYLY GeoMarkers were also given away in limited quantities. The STYLY GeoMarker could be scanned and viewed at any time and anywhere.
