Psychic VR Lab and STYLY for Nreal Develops the “HYPER LANDSCAPE” App Using 5G and Visual Positioning Service (VPS) Tech

Psychic VR Lab Co., Ltd. collaborated and provided MR content for demonstration experiments at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Japan. The experiment also comes in collaboration with KDDI Corporation and KDDI R&D Laboratories. The partnership brings cloud-based MR content with the distribution platform called “STYLY for Nreal.” The app utilizes the power of 5G and also the rapidly developing Visual Positioning Service (VPS) Technology designed by KDDI R&D Laboratories. In a new application release, Psychic VR Lab developed a digital exhibition called “HYPER LANDSCAPE” using STYLY which showcased at the museum March 11 – 14, 2021.

About the “HYPER LANDSCAPE” Demonstration

“HYPER LANDSCAPE” was created as a proposal for a new way to experience exhibitions at the National Museum. This new exhibit combines 5G and VPS technology in an effort to expand the existing real exhibition space beyond physical restrictions using MR.

Immersive Experience Using the Smart Glasses Called Nreal Light

You can enjoy MR content corresponding to the real space while walking through the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. The digital space appears only through the use of smart glasses. VPS technology enables real-time identification of where you are and how you are facing in the exhibition space. Depending on your positioning, the content will be changed or adjusted through your smart glasses for a more intuitive and immersive viewing experience.

Your Own Virtual Host “coh” – A High-Definition 3D model Utilizing Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC)

By connecting to a MEC server that enables real-time rendering of large volumes of data with smartphones and smart glasses via KDDI’s 5G base station installed in the National Museum, high-definition digital content can be achieved.

The virtual host “coh” will appear as an attendant on your smart glasses. It enables non-verbal expressions such as facial expressions, movements, and gestures to convey information, and supports you in experiencing the exhibition space more intuitively and easily.

VPS (Visual Positioning Service):
Positioning based on an advanced system of conventional GPS (Global Positioning System), 3D map (3D mesh) that becomes a digital twin in the real world, and smartphones and smart glasses technology. VPS enables highly accurate position information including orientation by collating with the image through the camera mounted on the glasses.

MEC (Multi-Access Edge Computing): Technology for processing data within a mobile network close to the user.
