Development of a VR Shopping Experience with PARCO Enabling shopping in VR with friends

Psychic VR Lab, the company that provides the VR creative platform ‘STYLY( https://styly.cc )’, and PARCO have developed a VR shopping content with the theme ‘Shopping experience in 2020’. The content was displayed in the ‘South by Southwest Trade show’ (further referred to as SXSW) held in Austin, Texas.

Demonstration of the updated version

For the next step, the updated VR Content will be on demonstration from May 10th to 13th at Shibuya SR6「RUNWAY channel Lab. SHIBUYA」.

VR technology is currently popular for entertainment uses, but this project explores the possibilities of VR technology in the fashion and retail business, and aims to create a new shopping experience for the renewed Shibuya PARCO, which is planned to open in Autumn 2019.

At last year’s SXSW, we created a VR experience with the theme ‘A shopping experience in Tokyo, 20 years from now’, and tried to display each clothes with their own story, visualized and linked in VR. For this year’s SXSW, we focused on a more near future, and many people from all over the world experienced our demonstration of future shopping in VR.

For this demonstration, we will display real products sold in the store within VR. We will combine fashion with an innovative experience, and aim to provide a service that leads to marketing.

Content Overview

2020 Shopping Experience -STYLY OS UMWELT-

In this content experience, many clothes will fly around you as you advance. If you find any clothes you are interested in, you can use the controller to click it, and a Like mark will popup.

Clothes you ‘liked’ will be gathered at the last display area, and users can enjoy shopping while communicating with friends in a VR world.

Strengths of this content

A VR space can be designed without limitation from physic rules such as scale or gravity, and designers can create a world with season themes and brand concepts without too much work, and can also use 3D coordinates. Since data can be used directly, the area does not need to use real clothes, and can display more clothes than they can stock in the real world. Customers can enjoy shopping around unlimited products, just as in an EC site.

In our demonstration, sensors will capture the viewer’s movements, and multiple people will be able to share the same VR experience. Users will be able to enjoy communication with friends as they experience shopping in the VR world.
